On January 8, 2013, the Illinois House approved legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain temporary driver's licenses. Yesterday S.B. 957, passed the Transportation Committee and today it passed in the House by a vote of 65-46. The new highway safety legislation will allow undocumented immigrants to obtain three-year licenses, called Temporary Visitor Driver's licenses. Applicants will have to take a driver's education course, as well as have valid auto insurance.
